We have published two books: the "Web Design Annnual 1999" and the "Web Design Annnual 2001". Even during the relatively short period of time that we have been publishing the Yearbook, the World Wide Web has grown explosively, and the number of people who use it continues to grow every day. As the number of users grows, so does the number of Web sites.
The days when all you had to do was set up a Web site and people would be sure to view it are long past. Web designers whose sites hold little information or are hard to navigate will quickly find that their work is ignored.
The most popular sites are those where people surfing the Web not only find what they are looking for with ease, but gain satisfaction with every step toward that goal. Yet the Web designers who create these excellent Web sites still receive little recognition for their achievements.
In the "Web Design Annual 2002", we will feature the best of the sites that are now online, telling the world what the purpose of the site is and who designed it. By so doing, we hope to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the world of Web design.
With greater recognition of excellence in Web design, we believe that designers and administrators will enjoy a better overall environment for their creative work, leading to a richer and more exciting culture of Web design in Japan.
